Business Beats Cancer North East raises £135,000 on behalf of Cancer Research UK

The regional fundraising board behind Business Beats Cancer North East has celebrated a remarkable year of fundraising success, raising an incredible £135,000 during 2025/26 on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

The major highlight of the year was the board’s annual Gala Dinner, held in March at St James’ Park, which, backed by the generosity of the North East business community, generated a phenomenal £100,000 for life-saving cancer research taking place right here in the North East.

The black-tie event brought together more than 600 members of the regional business community for an evening of fundraising, entertainment, and celebration, all united by a shared commitment to helping beat cancer. Guests generously supported the cause through balloon prizes, raffles, and a high-profile auction featuring a range of exceptional prizes donated by businesses and supporters from across the region.

The Business Beats Cancer North East board is made up of a dedicated team of regional business leaders who volunteer their time as part of Cancer Research UK’s fundraising initiative. The board is chaired by Dr Suzannah Harnor, alongside vice-chair Graeme Stammers, and board members Chris Hall, Vikki McIsaac, Julie Mordue, Scott Beattie, Linda Rodham, Julie Turnbull, Kirsty Ostell, Lorraine Rorison, Dave Green, Helen Fawcett, Shelley Hood, and Nicola Broadfoot, working closely with Nicky McKenna Relationship and Regional Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research UK.

Chair Dr Suzannah Harnor said: “We are incredibly proud of what the North East business community has achieved this year. Raising £135,000 is a fantastic accomplishment and would not have been possible without the generosity, passion, and support of so many businesses and individuals across the region.

“Our Gala Dinner at St James’ Park was a truly special evening, bringing together 600 people all committed to making a difference. Every pound raised will help fund vital research and bring us closer to beating cancer. On behalf of the entire board, thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the year.”

Details of the 2027 Business Beats Cancer North East Gala Dinner, including the date and venue, are set to be announced shortly.
